DO I NEED A REFFERAL?

You do not need a referral to see me. However, you may be referred by your GP or psychiatrist if you have a diagnosed mental health disorder. The referral is typically in the form of a “Mental Health Care Plan” under the Federal Government Better Outcomes program. This entitles you to up to 10 subsidised sessions per calendar year.

HOW DO I PAY?

Payment is required on the day through credit card, debit card, or cash. If applicable, Medicare rebate will be processed that same day and private health insurance will need to be claimed back at a later date through your insurer.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

Consultations typically run between 50-55 minutes.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED AND HOW OFTEN?

The frequency and total length of therapy can significantly vary and depends on several factors. This includes your goals and desires and the nature and severity of your concerns.

I have worked with clients for just a few sessions and others for several years. Each person’s needs are unique and I will discuss this directly with you in your initial sessions and review as we work together.

You may choose to end therapy at any point.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS AN APPOINTMENT?

You can cancel or reschedule appointments without charges, provided you give at least 48 hours.

If you miss, cancel or reschedule without appropriate notice, you will be liable for half the session fee.

WHAT IS A PSYCHOLOGIST?

Psychologists are mental health care professionals who have extensively trained in the area of how humans think, feel, behave and learn. Registered psychologists are required to have a minimum of 6 years of university training and are also required to participate in ongoing training and supervision throughout their professional life.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY INITIAL APPOINTMENT?

The initial session will begin with inquiring about the circumstances that have led you into therapy. General and more specific questions aimed at developing a deeper understanding about your difficulties, your life in general and your early history will typically be asked.
