ABOUT DANIELLE

Registered Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, Psychodynamic Psychotherapist & Meditation Teacher

I am a registered Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist in private practice in Perth, Western Australia. My clinical experience comes from in a variety of settings including adult mental health, child and youth mental health, private practice and university clinics.

I adopt a wholistic heart-centred and compassionate approach for adolescents and adults experiencing a range of difficulties such as interpersonal and relational concerns, depression, anxiety, generalised stress and relational trauma. I welcome people who come with a clinical diagnosis or those who are seeking support with managing chronic dissatisfaction with life, limitations of self-worth, identity concerns and interpersonal and relational concerns.

I also consult with people wishing to focus on life coaching and personal development. These clients are seeking to reach their greatest potential both in life and the workplace.

In general, treatment can range from brief interventions (symptom alleviation) to longer term work which consists of a more extensive exploration of longstanding complex relational, personality and emotional patterns and personal development.

Where appropriate Medicare and health fund rebates are available (see FAQ).

MODALITIES

I offer an integrated approach uniquely tailored to your expressed needs using a range of treatment modalities.

    These include:

    COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (CBT)

CBT has a focus on addressing and modifying ways of thinking and behaviours that no longer serve an individual. There is a focus on improving emotional regulation and developing personal coping strategies. Therapy is strategy based and focuses on symptom relief rather than an in-depth exploration of the psyche.

    JUNGIAN ORIENTATED PSYCHOTHERAPY

This form of therapy is used for people who are experiencing distress and emotional problems or those who are seeking personal and in-depth exploration of their psyche. Jung believed that within the psyche was a drive towards balance and wholeness. Therapy will focus on removing the obstacles that prevent you being ‘your true self.’ Treatment is designed to bring both the conscious and unconscious aspects of the mind together to create wholeness, freedom and self-agency. It is important to remember that looking within is necessary to lead one from chaos to unity.

    PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy can be short or long-term. In this approach, there is an understanding that early relational and attachment patterns have an impact on adult functioning. The unconscious is seen as a motivating force. Psychodynamic therapy works through developing an understanding of how your unique experiences of yourself, others and the world impact how you show up in the “here and now”. This approach is not limited to symptom relief but works towards positive and significant character change and broadening of conscious awareness.

    CULTIVATING EMOTIONAL BALANCE (CEB)

CEB is an educational program that integrates modern psychology, current emotional research and contemplative practices to provide a secular platform for transformation. The skills learnt through CEB assist us to draw upon our human capacity to act with compassion and wisdom in all areas of life. CEB uses our emotional life as a path to develop happiness within ourselves and our relationships to self, other and beyond.

CEB is typically run as a group program however the techniques can be used in individual therapy.

Dates for group programs are coming soon.

    MEDITATION AND MINDFULNESS BASED THERAPY

Uses therapeutic methods in collaboration with mindfulness, breathing and meditative techniques. There is a focus on developing awareness around what you are sensing/feeling in the present moment without interpretation or judgement.

CEB is typically run as a group program however the techniques can be used in individual therapy.

Dates for group programs are coming soon.

MY ROLE – THE THERAPEUTIC ALLIANCE & PROCESS OF THERAPY

I provide a warm, empathic approach to therapy emphasising the therapeutic alliance – the relationship between the therapist and the client. I believe my role is to assist you to reconnect to your innate wisdom and facilitate your personal growth to flourish in all aspects of your life and relationships. True healing involves not only a cooperation between client and therapist but also between the heart (emotions) and mind (mental/cognitive).

Together we will explore the meaning behind your symptoms (thoughts, emotions and behaviours), how you interact and interpret the world around you and explore more meaningful ways of relating to yourself and others. This will enable us to develop an in-depth understanding of your emotional life and current difficulties to lead you to symptomatic relief, greater self-acceptance, emotional freedom and a cohesive sense of self.

Once we can find acceptance of our emotions and bring our inner worlds into the light real and lasting change can occur.
